Going Above and Beyond: Meet Our Heart of Service Award Recipients

Era Living News

We’re excited to announce that one of our team members from Ida Culver House Broadview have received national “Hero” recognition from Argentum Heart of Service Awards for 2025! They are Rehana Tariq, Resident Assistant in The Terrace.

They were honored with Heart of Service awards by Argentum, a national trade association representing 23,000 senior living communities. As “Heroes,” Rehana is recognized for going above and beyond to make a lasting difference for the community and people she serve.

The Meaning of the Heart of Service Award

The Argentum Hero Award specifically honors team members whose long-term dedication and compassion have positively influenced residents, coworkers, and the community at large. It is one of four Argentum Hero awards. The other three focus on community leadership, emergency response, and passion & purpose (including innovation).

Having this type of recognition not only celebrates individuals for their achievements it also inspires continued progress and vitality for retirement living communities everywhere.

Argentum Hearts of Service Hero Award

As part of Argentum’s mission, they advocate for choice, independence, dignity, and quality of life for older adults—all goals that we embrace at Era Living. Recognizing our staff members provides a way to celebrate and advance the core values that help our residents thrive.

Rehana is one of only five people nationwide to receive Argentum’s 2025 Heart of Service Hero Award.

Meet the Award Winner

Rehana Tariq
Argentum Hearts of Service Hero Award Winner

Rehana has been a member of the Era Living team for nearly 33 years. As a Resident Assistant, she is a calm and steady presence in The Terrace, at Ida Culver House Broadview—which provides dedicated services for older adults living with dementia. No matter what challenges arise, she navigates a path forward with respect, grace, and kindness.

For example, when one resident would not eat, she sat with him and gently coaxed him into eating small bites of yogurt. When another resident—a former nurse—frequently intervened in others’ care, Rehana respectfully redirected her by asking for her help “as a nurse.” Feeling valued, the resident answered Rehana’s request.

Not only does Rehana have a unique ability to connect with residents, but she is attentive to practical needs as well. She keeps a sewing kit to repair buttons and tears for residents and staff. In an earlier skilled nursing role, she went above and beyond to get essentials for patients who did not have family support.

With her unwavering commitment, she is a true leader on her team, inspiring residents and staff with her compassion and quiet leadership. “It’s not the job or the money. It’s something I feel called to do,” she says.

Why this Recognition Matters

Great care starts with great people. And the need for quality senior housing promises to grow in the coming years. According to the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), the U.S. population is older today than it has ever been, with the number of Americans ages 65 and older projected to increase from 58 million in 2022 to 82 million by 2050.

As the senior living industry continues to develop, team members like Rehana raise the standard for care and inspire focus on values such as:

In the words of Argentum, “Individuals like Rehana show care and compassion that raise the bar of excellence in senior living. Rehana champions choice, dignity, independence, and quality of life for residents and steadfast leadership for her employees. She embodies the servant’s-heart spirit of the hundreds of thousands of people who serve older adults in senior living each day.”

Looking Ahead: A Culture of Excellence

Creating a culture where staff can thrive is a key component of building outstanding senior living communities. The “Hero” recognition for our team members is a testament of how special a place Ida Culver House Broadview is to live and work.

As we honor our team members for their achievement, we also thank the team members in all of our Seattle retirement communities for the dedication they bring to their work each day. And we invite you to thank the caregivers and professionals in your life who are helping to support you and your loved ones—and advance a culture of excellence.
